LOCATION: The resort villages
of Hisaronu & Ovacik nestle between pine clad mountains on a
plateau about 1,000 ft above sea level under mount Babadag
(father mountain). The villages are approximately 7km
( 4.3 miles) to the south of Fethiye town and 57km (35.5 miles) from Dalaman airport.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Over the last few years this area
has seen rapid development with the construction of many villas and apartments
and is a thriving and popular area with British holiday makers. Building
restrictions limit the height of all properties so in the main views of the
surrounding countryside are unrestricted. Hotels and private villas and
apartments are intermingled throughout the area of Ovacik & Hisaronu and there
is a growing number of foreign residents living in the area. There is
usually a cooling breeze coming up from the sea during the summer months.
BEACHES: The nearest beach is Oludeniz 5km ( 3.1 miles) to the south of Ovacik and Hisaronu
and during the summer months there is a regular dolmus (mini
bus)
service
to Oludeniz. Some of the hotels also run regular
private services to the beach area. This area is very
popular in the summer months so do not expect to be alone on
the beach!
SHOPPING: During the summer
months many well stocked mini-markets are dotted throughout
the area of Ovacik & Hisaonu. There is a local market on
Mondays just off the main Hisaronu/Oludeniz roundabout where
you will find many bargains, there is also a fresh vegetable
and fruit market. Hisaronu is the main shopping area where
you will find ATM's, supermarkets, gift shops, and many
bars, cafes and restaurants offering both local and
international cuisine catering for every taste. A
medical centre (just down from the Hisaronu/Oludeniz roundabout) and private
hospital services are available
ENTERTAINMENT: Daytime -a good selection of
local trips and
excursions including local island boat trips (from Oludeniz & Fethiye), jeep safari
(from Fethiye) horse riding through the mountains and forests to Kaya Koy (Ghost
village) and for the more adventurous paragliding from Babadag mountain or
Microlighting and some water sports are available at Oludeniz. For full

Nightlife - Hisaronu village is the centre for local
nightlife which comes alive after dark with its many gift shops, lively bars and
restaurants catering for every taste. Many of the hotels during the summer
season offer 'Turkish Nights' with traditional entertainment. With the
increasing resident population several bars and restaurants now open during the
winter months although the number of days may be limited.
TRANSPORT: During the summer season frequent dolmus
(mini bus) which can be hailed any where on route to Fethiye town and
surrounding areas.
Car&
Jeep hire, motor scooter and bicycle hire are all
available and taxis are plentiful.
